Seen from the sky, here is the incredible labyrinth: the medina.

It seems to appear from nowhere, simply so as not to fracture the landscape but at the same time extremely complex: we can distinguish somewhat of a maze, a tangle, an entrance, an exit and some unfamiliar paths known only by the initiated.

Travellers will be lost with delight in the Marrakech medina's tight and torturous streets, but the mystery remains as to what will suddenly appear at the far end of these streets.

It is the veiled, nomadic Berber who suddenly appeared from deep within Mauritania, the Almoravids who in 1062 founded Marrakech after having acquired the entire country.
Marrakech became the capitol of their immense empire, from the Sahara to the Mediterranean. Then the conquerors Almohads, dreaming of a paradise stretching from Guadalquivir to the Sahara, construct the Koutoubia Mosque and beautify Marrakech.
