Just 90 minutes away by car, the stunning scenery of the High Atlas makes for a fabulous day trip, offering a dramatic change of pace to the frenetic activity of old Marrakech. Guests at Riad L’Orangeraie can take advantage of a private exursion with our chauffeur, who will remain at your disposal for the day.
Naturally, you can customise the itinerary to suit your wishes, though the most popular schedule is as follows:
- Set off from the riad around 9-9:30am, after breakfast. Visit an outlying souk/market on the way (depending on the day of your excursion). Tanahoute operates on Tuesdays, and Asni on Saturdays.
- Arrive in the village of Imlil, at the foot of Mount Toubkal (North Africa's highest peak) from where it is a 15-minute climb on foot up to the Kasbah du Toubkal. The option exists to make this climb on mule-back.
- Enjoy lunch at the Kasbah, followed by the option of joining a number of guided walks setting out from there. You can also choose to explore the surrounding countryside on foot, and without a guide - using one of several clearly marked routes. You'll visit several Berber villages, and maybe even sit with the locals for tea.
- Depart from Imlil between 4-5pm, so as to arrive back at the riad in good time to get refreshed for dinner.
Cost: 75 Euros (for groups of up to 4). Covers cost of transport and driver. Meals/refreshments extra.
